About the Artist

Growing up amidst the natural beauty of the Maine woods and spending summers on the rocky coast of New Hampshire, I was always surrounded by captivating landscapes. Frequent trips to the Portland Museum of Art allowed me entire afternoons surrounded by work by artists such as Rockwell Kent, Charles Woodbury and Andrew Wyeth. The intimate forests of Neil Welliver?s paintings especially touched me, as did the seascapes of Winslow Homer. My favorite paintings make me feel that I am with the artist, sharing his vision with him.

After graduating with a degree in physics from Mount Holyoke College, I studied drawing and painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. Now, I mostly paint "en plein air", a French term loosely meaning "outside and on site". My preferred method of painting is reacting to the changing light, atmosphere, currents, tides, and skies just as these changes occur. Even when I am in my studio, I choose subjects in motion including my own dogs playing in the surf.

I returned to New England after living in Maryland for ten years. A frequent visitor to New Hampshire during that decade, I am thrilled to have full-time access to my favorite subject-the inspiring New England landscape.
